Pixel Art in Modern Video Games - How Indie Studios Utilize Contemporary Pixel Art

Justin Neumann

This little piece is a sideview platformer shoot 'em up / tower defense game! Choose your defener and try to survive until the very end! On your way, buy yourself some new weapons to upgrade your fire power, refill your ammunition at the vending machine, and PROTECT THE ARTIFACT AT ALL COSTS!!!

This game was created  at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, as part of my bachelor project: "Pixel Art in Modern Video Games - How Indie Studios Utilize Contemporary Pixel Art"

Hey, I'm Justin! (also known as Kabura.Pixels) I do fun art stuff with pixels!

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

In the best case, I founded my very own indie game company, creating fun and silly games to entertain and cheer people up!

What is a good design for you?

As people use to say: more is not always better! I like a touch of minimalism, combined with vibrant and harmonizing, saturated colors.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

Writing academic texts. I'm an artist, not a writer.

Who or what inspires you?

Looking through Pinterest!

How do you approach a new project?

Good planning and silly characters are the key to any successful project!

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Try to experiment a lot in the practical game projects! They were the best part for sure!

Have you changed during your studies? How?

Before the first semester, I never really touched pixel art. After getting into it right at the beginning, I improved and made it into my profession now!

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

I love games! doesn't everyone here? duh.

What are you not going to miss in your studies?

Academic texts!!!

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

With a great D&D campaign finale!

Say hi!
