Application Possibilities of AI
in Creature Concept Art for Video Games

Niklas Höhnk

AI plays a major role in video games. Instead of dealing with AI as opposition or ally to a player, Niklas Höhnk tries to asses the potential of AI as a tool and helper in the creation process of games. For this project, an AI prototype was trained to render images based on a simple sketch. In this case in the context of Creature Concept Art assisted by AI-based image synthesis.

Coming from a Game Art and Animation BA background, where his final project was the reconstruction of an historical artifact, Höhnk now looks into what the future might hold for game developers.

What is a good design for you?

Having the right amount of Detail, to convey whats important and what isn't. As well as knowing when and where to do it incorrect on purpose.

Who or what inspires you?

Basically everything, sometimes a single word in a song sparks an idea i think about for the next few hours or days.

Have you changed during your studies? How?

I improved a lot during my studies gaining confidence and going from not wanting to hold and presentation to being the the main speaker in most of them. And so much more.

Why did you choose to study in your programme?
