The orphic egg
Maria Denise Dessimoz
In her photo series THE ORPHIC EGG, Maria Denise Dessimoz aims to express the phases of liminality in life. Her idea is based on the mythological motif of the cosmic egg which is found in various cultures and civilizations. Typically, it symbolises the cosmos or some primordial being which comes into existence by ‘hatching’ from the egg. For the artist it becomes also a metaphor for the exploration of the unconscious. Hence, through the spiral pattern of life, the human being transitions through different stages with its final attempt to come closer to the light.
Maria Denise Dessimoz
Made in Germany, born in Greece, and with origins from Switzerland, she was raised in between different countries. After her MSc in environmental engineering, she decided to make a 180° change in her life and pursue a more artistic path.
Photography came to her as an answer to her visual curiosity. Instinct is the leading factor of the whole process guiding her to results that either derive instantly from the mind or just come from external situations. She gets inspiration from myths, eastern philosophies, surreal stories, mysterious places, and uncanny events.

Somewhere in a forest ( if they still exist)

Something which is pleasing to the eye and transmits the concept

For sure my perception of things has changed, for the better

Because I wanted to learn and evolve as a photographer

With a trip back to Greece to visit my friends and of course beers
