The interactive installation VIRTUAL CIRCUIT explores the relation between reality and illusion, and the cyberspace. Although cyberspace is distinguishable from the physical world, it is often classified as an imitation of the real world, as a simulation.
Yasemin Okday questions whether a simulation can be an imitation if it is boundless and more unique than the physical world in relation to concepts like time and space. Taking inspiration from Baudrillard’s belief that everything we experience is already a simulation, she explores how individual perspectives lead to classification of what is an imitation and what is real.
The installation visualises the boundlessness of cyberspace and aims to answer the question of whether it can have its own reality, independent of what we are perceiving as real.
