“Being a child is like throwing a ball in the air – growing up is watching it fall back down.”
Benedict Wells, Hard Land
In her photographic series ON TAKING UP TIME, Maike Bergold targets the challenges of young people in their twenties.
It is a series about values and beliefs. About timing. About self-love and about failing. About letting go. But above all it is about being vulnerable, this summer.
My name is Maike and I am a photographer in my mid-twenties.
Photography for me is one of the best ways to express myself and communicate. During my studies I realized that I am mostly interested in topics concerning mental health and by extent pictures that transfer emotions and give people an opportunity to connect.
Pursuing what I love and hopefully doing so successfully.
Good design is simple, accurate and innovative.
Dealing with my own expectations.
Everything. It can be something someone said, movies, music obviously, a specific light situation...
I write down everything I am thinking about concerning this project until my head is empty.
It might sound corny, but just stay true to yourself and everything else will follow.
I think everyone changes constantly, so yes. Most importantly, I'm a little bit more at peace with myself.
Photography is what I want to do and how I want to express myself. There is no alternative really.
Being broke.
As there is still a pandemic going on, I will be in my hometown celebrating with my family and close friends and a lot of drinks.
