Infections of a Different Kind

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Wadden Sea’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the departments of Art & Design, Business & Sport, and Health & Psychology of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) launched an interdisciplinary flagship project culminating in an exhibition and a book launch that invites visitors to discover the fascinating landscape and fragile ecosystem of the Wadden Sea through new photographic and artistic viewpoints.

As part of the Student Photographers at Borkum series, UE Archive presents a curated selection of works by 15 students who participated in the AM WATT project.

Infections of a Different Kind

Free as a bird, strong as the ocean,
We expect her to be in our devotion.
Building on her fragile wings, not caring about what she thinks,
Struggling to carry all our weight, she falls
from the sky and disintegrates.
Holding on to the light with all her might,
She’s surrounded by darkness, gripping her tight.
Out of balance - ebb and tide,
Washing ashore her vengeful side.
If we don’t stop kicking her down,
She’ll consume this world and make us drown.
She will rise and heal the world from this demise,
Building the future with watchful eyes.
