Iris Birke’s film LILLI & CAMILLE depicts the loss of a loved one—whilst simultaneously experiencing the healing power of nature where memory and vitality exist equally—through a series of atmospheric images.
Created in collaboration with cinematographer Patrick Gregg, LILLI & CAMILLE is a hybrid of analogue and digital media, merging traditional puppet animation with live action footage shot for the protagonist’s eyes.

I’m enthusiastic about all kinds of stop motion, especially puppet animation. Crafting with various materials, building the sets I imagined—just in general making something actually exist in real life in order to tell stories—is what keeps me drawn to this analogue medium.
