The Plane Adventures of Maxi

Donald Nezungai

THE PLANE ADVENTURES OF MAXI is an interactive installation. Inspired by one of the Clarkian laws, the machine learning experiment connects the fantastic and the mundane by doing something extraordinary with an ordinary object in order to make it seem magical.

I'm a chill, fun-loving guy.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I see myself as a retired family man, reaping the rewards of my hard labour after having sold off all my successful businesses. Either that or I will be successfully running a digital media empire.

What is a good design for you?

Great design is the result of a designer exploiting that sweet spot at the intersection of technology and the creative arts in order to solve people’s problems in unexpected ways.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

Time management mostly because I was juggling my time between projects, travelling to university and working 2 jobs.

Who or what inspires you?

Brian Collins, Chris Do, Mark Andrews, Brad Bird and Seth Godin.

How do you approach a new project?

I always think about how I can answer the brief. When I think of an idea, I consider if the idea will bring me joy, humour me, and if it looks good.

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Find your way as soon as possible. Understand it, live it, evolve it. Also remember to work hard, be nice to people, and try to not get lost or killed. Another thing, process books may suck to make, but you will realise the benefit once you start working. They provide an understanding/method to the madness.

Have you changed during your studies? How?

Yes I have. I have grown to live and understand my 'why' better.

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

I knew that this program would train me to learn how to strike a good balance between technology and the creative arts.

What are you not going to miss in your studies?

I will not miss trying to find some space to chill and do some work ... or the ill-tempered printers.

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

I'll stay at home and continue to work on my business!

Say hi!
