(English) MOTORSPORTS – HUMAN AND MACHINE is a series of eight images showing the speed, effort, risks, and emotions of an athlete. Two sports are shown, Enduro and the supreme discipline of motorsport, Formula 1. The cyanotype in the series symbolizes the side of the print media that usually reports on the emotional state of the athlete. Carmen M. is a photographer based in Austria. From a young age she knew that the camera would be her voice to tell her stories. She started to attend a professional high school for arts and crafts in 2011, where she did her A-Levels in photography and art history in 2016. After graduating from art school, she attended the UE faculty for Art and Design in Berlin to study photography and to work on her plans in life. During her studies she combined her love towards motorsport and photography to become an action photographer. She showcases all her work on her Instagram account @carmelot_photography, where she also gives insights into her life as a motorsports photographer.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

In 20 years, I see that all my dreams became true and that I found my way in the industry. Also, I would like to feel the same joy as I am feeling right now by using the shutter on my camera.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

To find something I enjoy taking pictures of and in action photography I found something I was looking for! :) Also for me as an Austrian, Berlin was quite challenging at first.

Who or what inspires you?

I would say my dad inspired and still inspires me the most! Without him I would not have become an action photographer.

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Don't give up and never say never!

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

After attending a professional high school for art and crafts in Austria and also taking my A-levels in photography, I knew this is what I want to study.

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

I will celebrate with my family, by opening a bottle of Coca Cola and eating Chinese food.

Say hi!

As a big motorsport fan myself, I have to admit that these pictures look impressive. Looking forward to see your pictures in the main stream motorsport.
