Fashion Systems in Action Games

Carlo di Paolo

Carlo di Pablo added a fashion system to the previously developed hack-and-slash game Rave Cage Carnage. The system is aimed at giving the player maximum creative freedom while not getting in the way of the core gameplay. By wearing outfits that fit the requested mood and playing the game, the player earns Fashion Points with which they can acquire new clothes and expand their wardrobe.

I'm a game artist and 3D generalist with a background in illustration and a deep interest in all forms of narrative media.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

Working as an art lead on a medium-sized project... or face down in a ditch.

What is a good design for you?

This question is too vague to be able to reply to it in a meaningful way.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

Finding a healthy work/life balance. I'm still working on that, to be honest.

Who or what inspires you?

Yoko Taro, Suda51 and any game developer willing to take career risks to break conventions.

How do you approach a new project?

Stalking through the tall grass to catch it on its downwind side.

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Be curious and set your own goals. If you want to coast along, you're wasting your money.

Have you changed during your studies? How?

I've gone from zero knowledge to a decent specialization in Game Development. I've also gotten slightly fatter and more pedantic.

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

I like videogames.

What are you not going to miss in your studies?

The bureaucracy and time-wasting.

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

Filling out a questionnaire about it, apparently.

Say hi!
