SHIFT

Bahar Gözmener

SHIFT is a simulation of a multimedia installation that revolves around the shift between the internal and external human perspective. It explores how the two are connected and influence each other. The contrast between the experience inside and outside of the boxes creates awareness of how prejudices are built. SHIFT exposes the relational nature of our perception of reality through an immersive and atmospheric audiovisual experience. By displaying the power struggle of our capitalistic system in a non-linear, triangular set-up, it criticizes the effect the consumerist system has on the perception of our identity.

I am interested in smashing prejudices and stereotypes to create a more accepting environment for everybody. I want to use art to bring people together and make changes to life as we live it today.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I want to be the founder of a non-profit organization that collaborates with different artists and musicians to organize events to raise funds for social projects.

What is a good design for you?

A good design provokes you to see something in a different light or to think differently about it.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

By far the bachelor project.

Who or what inspires you?

Everything around me, books, songs, artists, my friends, strangers I meet on the street or at a bar...

How do you approach a new project?

I start off with an idea, find the right medium for what I want to communicate, stay open, curious and trust the process!

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Don't be afraid of failure, it is part of success!

Have you changed during your studies? How?

I have grown personally, matured, found out more about who I am and where I want to go.

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

I originally started studying photography because I loved doing that at the time, but soon that wasn't enough for me anymore, so I was drawn to audiovisual moving images instead.

What are you not going to miss in your studies?

The pressure of DEADLINES - but I guess, I'll still face those in my work life as well...

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

With a trip to Budapest with a good friend of mine :)

Say hi!
