Transformation of Beauty

Carmen Elisa Iregui Acosta

Carmen Elisa Iregui Acosta’s photo series TRANSFORMATION OF BEAUTY criticizes and mocks the big fashion and advertising industries about the beauty standards imposed with digitally created bodies. For years, the aspect of fabricating perfect bodies inside the industries has been an open topic for the creators of the audiovisual and artistic medium, something that – for the masses – is not so obvious and maybe just speculation. The aspect of imposing a ’perfect body‘ has brought a lot of insecurities, many have developed psychological problems, lack of self-esteem and even health problems such as eating disorders, all to seek a body that is almost physically impossible to reach.
The series of photos are composed by a triptych of the real body of each model to be photographed and a single image where they are shown as advertising actors with perfect looking bodies.

Coming from the land of “magical realism” I search myself and my roots into the wild, nature, the multicolor lights in the sky and sea. What my projects reflect are what I want to fix for me, for the planet, and others. There are so many horrors in this world that why not to see the beautiful side of it.  I present the reality of my surroundings, family, and friends. Details are part of my work, as this not always shows the obvious but the deepest feelings and emotions of the past and the present. Portraits revealing people’s personalities and not just models with fake smiles.
