Dating Berlin. Loving Berlin.

Janna Opheim

For my MA thesis project in Innovation Design Management, I chose to explore the topic of dating in Berlin. The thesis looks at compatibility and rationalization, by conducting a dating experiment on a set of users and backing it up with theories from behavioural science, psychology and relationship experts.

The thesis dissertation was purely theoretical, however as a bonus the concept unhinged is presented as a solution in the end.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

20 years is a very long time and a lot can change, but I really want to grow my career into a direction of becoming a Design Lead or Creative Director in a thriving, innovative design space :)

How do you approach a new project?

I always approach every project with an open and curious mindset, focusing on empathising with the user and not make assumptions before it's thoroughly tested. Most importantly – remember to kill your darlings and not let your ego take over (especially in team work).

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

I wanted to gain deeper understanding into the business perspective side of things to boost my design career. Also, I wanted to move somewhere new where I could meet and learn from people all over the world, and Berlin + UE happened to be the perfect place for that (tip: if you're studying in Potsdam like me, I still recommend to find accommodation in Berlin. The commute is totally worth it).
