Longing for Another Realm

Kimberley Schlimm

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Wadden Sea’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the departments of Art & Design, Business & Sport, and Health & Psychology of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) launched an interdisciplinary flagship project culminating in an exhibition and a book launch that invites visitors to discover the fascinating landscape and fragile ecosystem of the Wadden Sea through new photographic and artistic viewpoints.

As part of the Student Photographers at Borkum series, UE Archive presents a curated selection of works by 15 students who participated in the AM WATT project.

Longing for Another Realm

Melancholia seeps through my bones
a sea of tears builds in my stomach
the puppet strings are slowly visible
my body is an intertwined tree
I want to be the broken flower
a lullaby of willow trees weeping
i want to tear my rotting flesh apart
under it you will find hollowness
God will never yield to listen
at least the darkness feels like home
let me eat a pomegranate
the styx won’t be as far away
I will pay the ferrymen with my sins
– the nature of longing for another realm.
