BE NOT AFRAID is an immersive video sculpture installation that uses biblically accurate angels to symbolize higher dimensional beings. These two sculpture pieces aim to attract the audience through the depiction of angels in their surreal forms and optical illusions, which create an immersive experience for the audience through the use of mirrors and reflections. The kaleidoscope piece offers a dynamic geometrical image of angels in their higher dimensional forms, while the infinity mirror piece represents an infinite number of angel bodies that are still yet nonconventional in their form. The representations of the crosssections of these higher dimensional realms are presented as artworks that would expand audiences' thoughts and feelings about the abstract concept of the fourth dimension, sparking a new perspective on the intersection of art and mathematics.
İpek Aytar was born on the 23rd of February 2001 in Ankara. She graduated from the Communication Design department at Bilkent University. She lives in Berlin and finished her master's degree in New Media Design. Her work is driven by spirituality. She gets her inspiration from the myths and legends of the past, angels, auras, energy, and nature. With the light-positive approach of spirituality, she also combines gothic, dark, and unsettling elements in her works to create duality. She wants people to experience it as if they're out of this world, connecting to another dimension that is nerve-wracking but peaceful at the same time while they look at her works.
