Since the Upper Palaeolithic period, humans have been using colours, illustrations of objects, and animals to visualize an idea or to convey a message. Today symbols are still being used by visual artists, designers, and authors.

Creative professionals are always required to come up with unique ideas. Frequently the ideas are very similar. Symbols are used as warning or informing signs, but also in the moulding of corporate identities. In her project DRAFT, Maria Karapiperi worked on an app that inspires, assists, and informs. It helps creative professionals to visualize their ideas faster and easier. The app provides users with the necessary information on how design elements are perceived, on their historical background and on similar designs that are already in use.
