FOLLOWERS is a collection of photographs, collage pieces, and conversations with artists, designers, and craftspeople exploring what it means to be a maker in the digital age. The 100-page book examines the shift from analog to digital through interviews with experts and responsive creating through art and design practice. The reader is brought along a visually poetic and informative narrative to uncover what it means to create and exist in virtual spaces.

Ella Kraimer is a multi-national graphic artist, photographer, and media designer based in Berlin. She worked with Luxiders Sustainable Culture Magazine as a designer, illustrator, and journalistic writer in 2019. Her research through art and design explores important questions surrounding why we create and what our creative culture reveals about who we are.

What is a good design for you?

Design that is deeply personal and universal at the same time.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by bold choices in art and design which challenge us to think or behave in ways we are not accustomed to.

How do you approach a new project?

I have always found creative writing a great place to start a project. Writing freely for 30 minutes helps me personally connect with my intentions for a project and boils down general ideas to the essence of what it is I want to ‘say’.

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

Challenge yourself and stay inspired. The quality of your work depends on yourself!

Say hi!

Dear Ella, Congratulations on earning your Bachelors Degree. Your thesis project rocks! I love the book. The photography, the imagery, the text, the video narration -- you touched a lot of senses. I look forward to seeing what comes next. You have a bright future ahead of you! Love, Dad
