Lender. The adoption of a circular economy through a mobile application.

Paulina Hoyo Vazquez

Let's be aware and start to share—LENDER is a mobile application that enables people to lend, give or trade goods instantly with anyone nearby. The project aims to construct a community based on trust and respect, implementing a circular economy to reduce consumerism and wasteful behaviours to decrease the pollution of our planet.

Somehow, it's always a bit difficult to describe yourself, but I'll try my best. What I would like you to know is: That I am a very determined and dedicated person. I like to set goals and not stop until I reach them. I am a very family-oriented person. I love spending time with my family, friends, and pets. Two very strong virtues that characterize me are: creativity and fairness. I consider myself a very creative person, especially when it comes to solving problems. I am also a very fair person that strives for justice in every way. And lastly, I love meeting new people and places, as well as other cultures.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

I see myself traveling all over the world, and running my creative studio in my favorite city: Queenstown, New Zealand.

What is a good design for you?

For me, a good design is led by purpose, meaning that it should provide a solution to a problem.

What was the most challenging experience during your studies?

To stop comparing my work to other people's work, and I think learning design software from scratch.

Who or what inspires you?

There are a lot of things that inspire me. First of all, my family motivates me. Nature moves me. The unknown excites me. People who do good for the environment and others inspire me. Justice guides me. Knowledge transforms me.

How do you approach a new project?

I think one of my philosophies is to create something that gives life a purpose. Therefore, I like to identify the problem first, so I can solve it with my design skills.

What advice would you give to students who just started studying in your programme?

First, never compare your work with the work of others. Secondly, take good advantage of all the installations and tools that school offers. If you have a project in mind, do it! Do not leave it for later because time flies, and in a blink of an eye, you are done with school.

Have you changed during your studies? How?

Definitely. I could say I'm a completely different person since I moved to Berlin. I've grown a lot as a person. I became an independent person in every way, and this, of course, made me grow to the fullest extent. I also became a more determined person in what I want for my life. And of course, I am already a professional at something I am passionate about doing.

Why did you choose to study in your programme?

Because that is what I wanted to do since I was a kid. I always wanted to design packaging, logos, posters, book covers, and once the applications came out, I aspired to be the person who designs the human-machine interactions, along with the app's interface.

What are you not going to miss in your studies?

I will miss the introduction to the different branches of design and the project weeks. Also, to be very honest, I will miss the benefits one has as a student.

How are you going to celebrate your graduation?

Well, my family was supposed to fly in from Mexico to celebrate together. However, it couldn't happen because of COVID-19. I will therefore enjoy myself with my boyfriend and my friends here in my beloved Berlin. I am very grateful to all the people who made this bachelor possible and fun. Special thanks to my dad, Marcelo Hoyo, and mom, Sandra Vazquez, for their unconditional love and support. Also, I am very grateful to my partner, Gabriel Nemcic, who went through all the ups and downs in these three years. And finally, thanks to the professors who introduced me to so much. To you all, thank you.

Say hi!

The concept for your app is very current; from stepping out of excessive consumption to being more responsible with our environment. It's an easy way to give more use to a product, either by you or by somebody else. On the other hand, it would be highly engaging for people to get the app just to see what kind of new things they can get and trade for. Great way to save money too! 😉 I really like the logo; it makes sense that the swirl starts growing out and then go back to the point of origin; very on point with the whole idea within your app. Good job Pau! I would definitely get it!

The project Is very unique and Is something we really need today, we need to change and get to do stuff like this in order to make the world a bit better , in many aspects. The design Is very neat, the colors make you smile and give you a sense of happiness and trust. It makes you wanna join Lender once for all. Loved it (:
